Work Done

  1. Reviewed and tested the Chat Screen UI to ensure messages appear clearly and consistently for both Senders and Receivers.

  2. Ensured messages display in the correct alignment:

    • Right side = My messages

    • Left side = Other user messages

  3. Verified smooth scroll behaviour, checking that new messages automatically scroll into view without glitches.

  4. Tested message sending and receiving flows after request approval, confirming chat only unlocks once the food request is accepted.

  5. Checked the chat layout across multiple devices to ensure proper spacing, padding, and responsive design.

  6. Updated UI consistency issues such as timestamp placement and bubble spacing.

Current Status

  • Chat screen is


    with stable message delivery on both sides.

  • UI alignment issues have been resolved and messages now appear clean and readable.

  • Scrolling behaviour works smoothly without sudden jumps or cut-off messages.

  • Chat becomes available immediately after approval, matching the intended workflow.

Plans for Next Week

  1. Add improvements to chat layout (shadows, rounded bubbles, better timestamp display).

  2. Test chat performance under longer conversations to ensure stability.

  3. Assist with integration of push notifications for new chat messages.

  4. Support polishing the chat screen for final presentation visuals.

 Week-5 Report  June 28, 2025 My focus this week was on broadening our project by suggesting an idea that lends itself to our aim of tackling the problems of food waste and food accessibility - a Community Fridge Locator and Booking System. The idea was spurred by Starr's own research into local food-sharing projects, where community fridges are emerging as an increasingly popular grassroots solution. By adding a map-based fridge locator to our system, users will be able to see where there are community fridges near them, what is available or needed at which fridges, and they can even claim space to drop off their food. This sort of system can be very helpful for smaller food businesses or supermarkets, or anyone wishing to give away perishables in a speedy, organised fashion.
