Research Focus: Feedback Integration & System Design Improvements

This week’s activities primarily revolved around refining our research framework and improving the technical design aspects of the Food Next Door project based on academic mentoring and supervisor feedback.

Key Activities and Learnings:

1. Research Feedback and Legal Framework Clarification:

On Wednesday, our team had a project research mentoring session with our teacher. We received detailed feedback on our research section, particularly on strengthening the legal and regulatory framework for payment systems. We discussed the relevant laws governing online transactions in Australia, including compliance with the Australian Consumer Law (ACL) and secure payment gateway requirements. We clarified how payment-related data will be collected, processed, and secured in compliance with the Privacy Act 1988 and Australian Privacy Principles.

2. System Architecture and Diagram Importance:

The session emphasized how the system architecture should align with both functional and non-functional requirements of the application. We reviewed the importance of core software engineering diagrams – including the use case diagram, activity diagram, data flow diagram (DFD), and entity-relationship diagram (ERD). We understood that these diagrams are not only documentation tools but also play a pivotal role in bridging requirements gathering and development phases, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in implementation.

3. Decision Matrix Review:

On Friday, we conducted another meeting with the teacher to review our decision matrix. The feedback highlighted the need to make the criteria more realistic and directly relevant to the application’s objectives. We were advised to avoid biased or overly rigid scoring, ensuring each decision is backed by thorough research rather than assumptions. This will improve the transparency and reliability of our technology and design choices.

4. Research-Based Development Approach:

Both meetings reinforced the importance of basing all design, development, and operational decisions on credible research. This includes referencing government regulations, academic literature, and best practice guidelines to ensure the platform is both compliant and optimally designed for its intended purpose.
