Week 5 Report

Week 5 Report  Project: Food NextDoor This week,  I engaged with some theoretical and technical explore to better understand the online food ordering and delivery ecosystem. This involves reviewing related academic literature on the topic and analyzing how existing systems are organized and tested. I go back to the Trello board to track progress and ensure alignment with the tasks allocated across the team. This helped me to understand better how each component fits into our larger proposal and what indicators are approaching. During our colleague discussion, we focused on finalizing the roadmap and identifying the next steps. The conversation helped clarify roles and expectations, and we also briefly discussed system features that might be adaptable from real-world examples. One of the academic papers I reviewed gave valuable vision into the system's architecture, such as data flow diagrams and real-time module alterations, which could influence how we bu...

Week 5 Findings and Task

Image
Findings In order to encourage businesses to donate excess food instead of disposing of it in landfills, Australia has implemented new legal incentives, such as the Food Donation Tax Incentive Bill 2024. Food safety and liability protection laws help remove barriers for food donation by protecting donors and ensuring safe redistribution. According to research, Australia wastes more than 7.6 million tonnes of food a year, much of it is still edible, yet food poverty is still a big social problem. Week 5 Discussion

Team Discussions As the due date for our first assessment approaches, our team met at the end of Week 5 class to coordinate our approach. We agreed to each select a specific topic related to the first assessment and independently prepare our individual reports. In Week 6, we plan to review and compare our reports as a team, then submit a sample report to our teacher for feedback. After receiving suggestions, we will incorporate the feedback and finalize our first assessment for submission by Sunday. -Sampurna

Week- 5 Report

This week, I focused on connecting all the ideas and features we’ve been discussing over the past few weeks into a more cohesive app experience for FoodNextDoor . With strong foundations like real-time food donation and the community fridge system already laid out by the team, I wanted to explore how these modules can work together smoothly for the end user .  Mapping User Journeys I started by creating detailed user flow diagrams for our three main user types: Food donors (e.g., restaurants, households) Food recipients (charities, individuals) Fridge users (people accessing or contributing to community fridges) This helped me visualise the full journey each user takes—from login to their final action (like donating or claiming food). It also highlighted some missing screens and potential pain points that we’ll need to address in the next phase of UI design.

Week-5 Report (Food NextDoor)

Week-5 Report  June 28, 2025 My focus this week was on broadening our project by suggesting an idea that lends itself to our aim of tackling the problems of food waste and food accessibility - a Community Fridge Locator and Booking System. The idea was spurred by Starr's own research into local food-sharing projects, where community fridges are emerging as an increasingly popular grassroots solution. By adding a map-based fridge locator to our system, users will be able to see where there are community fridges near them, what is available or needed at which fridges, and they can even claim space to drop off their food. This sort of system can be very helpful for smaller food businesses or supermarkets, or anyone wishing to give away perishables in a speedy, organised fashion. In our group meeting, we put some thoughts on how this new module may be implemented, and those components include the following: Map Integration (e.g., Google Maps API) to search and visualize community...
Week-4 Report (Food NextDoor) This week, I focused on academic and technical exploration to better elaborate on the field related to our proposed idea. I  went through the Trello board that our team has set up to better understand everyone's work and perspective on the project . During the team discussion this week, we discussed the proposal roadmap along with the next milestone. Also , this week I read some of the academic papers regarding the online food order and delivery ecosystem. 'View of the Development of an Online Food ' (publisher.uthm.edu.my, n.d.)  This paper detailed the whole development phase, including the data flow diagram and user acceptance testing also taught about modules'  real-time changes in a system, which could be actionable insight into our idea.   Refrences -  publisher.uthm.edu.my. Research: Reducing Food Waste with Smart Apps

Research: Reducing Food Waste with Smart App   June 21, 2025 As part of our Advanced Studio 1 project, our team explored how mobile technology can play a powerful role in reducing food waste and redistributing surplus food to those in need. With increasing concerns about sustainability and food insecurity, we saw an opportunity to use smart app features to build a solution that connects food donors (restaurants, supermarkets, households) with recipients (charities, shelters, and individuals). Key Insights from Our Discussion: 1. Real-Time Donation System A key app feature we discussed is real-time food listing , where businesses can quickly upload surplus food items with expiry times. Users near the location receive instant notifications for pickup—reducing the risk of waste. 2. Smart Matching Algorithm The app should match food donations with the closest verified recipient using filters like food type, quantity, dietary preferences, and pickup time. This improves eff...

Research: Allergen Label

As we have chosen a food website for our Advanced Studio 1 project, it is essential to clearly specify the food items we offer to our customers. Providing detailed descriptions of each item is crucial, particularly with regard to potential allergens. Many individuals have allergies to ingredients such as nuts, dairy, and others, so it is important that all allergen information is clearly labelled within the product descriptions to ensure customer safety and transparency.  Some of the things I found: If specific allergies are present in your food (as ingredients, additives, or processing aids), you are required to disclose them. Milk, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, sesame, wheat, eggs, shellfish, fish, and cereals that contain gluten (barley, rye, and oats if gluten is present) are examples of allergies. If sulphites are detected at ≥10 mg/kg, they must be reported. Use strong font to indicate allergies in the ingredients list, such as milk powder (milk). Include a succinct message such a...

Week 3 Activity

ADVANCED STUDIO 1 INT3506 We presented our ideas followed by registration of the team.
